Bolda Collection by Kwangho Lee for Lambert & Fils
At Salone del Mobile, Lambert & Fils delves into the bold and dynamic world of South Korean designer Kwangho Lee with Bolda, an unconventional new collection.
Polished aluminum—Lambert & Fils' signature material—acts as a striking backdrop for enamelled copper plates, imbuing them with sculptural depth and a luminous presence. Light emanates from a concealed source beneath the folded surfaces, filtering through integrated openings to highlight edges and junctions. Large circular perforations punctuate Bolda’s form, engaging in a continuous interplay with surrounding space, shifting in perspective and colour depending on the viewer’s angle.
The collection includes a suspension light and two wall sconces, also available in a minimalist variation composed solely of polished aluminum sheets. This streamlined edition preserves the collection’s essence while offering a refined alternative. This collaboration celebrates craftsmanship, creative exchange, and the harmonious fusion of materials.
"This project was a unique opportunity to push the boundaries of our practice and create a light fixture that reflects the soul of our two creative worlds" — Samuel Lambert, Founder of Lambert & Fils.
Kwangho Lee’s Approach
For years, Kwangho Lee has refined the art of copper enamelling, drawing inspiration from chilbo, a traditional Korean decorative technique in which coloured glass powder is fused onto metal at high temperatures. Originally used for small objects, Lee has reimagined this method on a larger scale for furniture and lighting, creating a shimmering, organic effect. The collection’s name, Bolda, evokes the tranquil waves and breezes of Jeju Island, where Lee lives and finds inspiration.
In collaboration with Lambert & Fils, this approach merges tradition with innovation, forming the foundation of a unique creative dialogue.
The Collaboration
"Taking on new challenges is like sailing on an open sea. Sometimes we face strong winds, sometimes we find calm waters. I think our collaboration is much the same" — Kwangho Lee.
Pierre Laramée, a key figure in Montreal’s design scene and founder of commissaires gallery, played a pivotal role in bringing Kwangho Lee and Samuel Lambert together. Laramée first introduced Lee’s work to North America in 2008 and believed their shared artistic vision would result in something extraordinary.
After months of remote collaboration between Seoul and Montréal, Lee joined Lambert & Fils for an immersive creative residency, allowing the team to refine the collection with hands-on experimentation. This pivotal moment shaped Bolda’s identity, blending Lee’s expertise in copper enameling with Lambert & Fils’ signature craftsmanship.
The Bolda Collection will debut at Euroluce, featuring a scenography by DWA Design Studio.
